I am very excited to announce that due to the response
to our first performance of this work, 45 Downstairs have invited us to
come back to their wonderful space and perform it again.
7.30 pm Monday 23rd February 'In Times less Sacred' The new millennium, not yet a decade old, has been marked by enormous natural calamity, wars without end, and fear of instability and change. Yet here we are again, entering into Advent and trying to relax, turning our attention to the rites of the season, and its accompanying pleasures. The intense and sublime beauty of Ancient Sacred Chant fuses rich and potent text with music that longs to transcend the moment, and the world. These texts, which speak of rapture and adoration, are the palimpsest to a radical sound-world that is both a homage and a critical renewal of them. Yet, at the same instant, this is a response to the aftermath of the big Indian Ocean tsunami, the earthquake at Bam, Iran, and other cataclysmic events of the new millenium ( natural and man-made ) filtered through a deconstructed, and possible total misunderstanding of the paintings of Hieronymous Bosch, and read through a total lack of care of modern eschatological thought! Nick Tsiavos continues his ongoing engagement with Ancient Chant with an ensemble of internationally acclaimed musicians that transcend genre; from Early Music to Modern, Complexity to Improvisation, Minimalism to Jazz. Deborah Kayser - Soprano Adam Simmons - Saxophones, and other things blown Eugene Ughetti - Percussion Peter Neville - Percussion Nick Tsiavos - Contrabass, Artistic Direction
